Jack and Sarah Martin sat in the dining room watching the clock they knew Kat had to be to the doctors soon and they hoped she would make it back in time.
The sound of a car pulling into the drive sent Sarah jumping to the window.
"Boy it is getting cold out there" Ike said to Jack as he shook his hand.
"Kat how are you feeling dear" Sarah said in her motherly voice.
"Fine mom, would it be ok if Ike came with us this afternoon?" Kat asked her parents.
"I don't see why not, Ike why don't you call you mom to let her know, ok?" Jack answered.
Zac was watching the "Howie Mandel Show" when the phone rang.
"I'll get" he yelled out. "Hello, Hanson residence" Zac answered.
"Hey Zac, is mom or dad around?" Ike asked his brother.
"Mom and Dad who?" Zac said in a low voice "What's the code word?" Zac teased his brother.
"How about if you don't find one of our parents quick I am coming over there and flushing your head in the toilet stool" Ike said. "Oh that mom and dad, yeah I think they are around hang on" Zac laughed as he set the phone down.
Ike could hear Zac scream "Is there a Mom or Dad around? If so please pick up the white courtesy phone."
"Ok Zacy hang it up" Ike heard his mom's voice.
"Hello" Diana said out of breath.
"Mom" Ike started to explain what was going on and asking if it would be ok if he went with the Martin's.
After giving her permission Diana told Ike to tell the Martins that they were invited over for dinner.
"Ok mom, thanks see you tonight" Ike said as he hung up the phone.
Kat was in her room she felt very cold but hot at the same time.
Dismissing it to the weather outside Kat put on a pull over sweater and grabbed her bag and headed down stairs.
"Hey you" Ike met her half way on the stairs. "Hop on" Ike turned around and Kat wrapped her legs around his waist and held on for dear life as Ike began walking down the stairs.
"Geez Kat, your light as a feather" Ike said trying to catch his breath jokingly.
"Thanks a lot butthead" Kat returned the compliment.
That did it, Kat sent Ike off on one of his Beavis and Butthead kicks.
"Oh before I forget my parents want you guys to come over for dinner tonight" Ike said as they got into the car.
The trip to the hospital was a full of silence. Kat and Ike just looked at each not saying a word they both knew this appointment was going to be extremely difficult.
Taylor sat down stairs trying to work on a new song.
His mind was in another place though.
Kat had been like part of the family since he could remember. Taylor knew Ike and Kat were best friends.
"What are they hiding" he wondered.
Just than Zac almost falling down the stairs interrupting Tay's thoughts came flying down the stairs.
"What ya doing Tay?" Zac questioned. "Working" Tay shot back at his brother.
"Yeah right" Zac said looking at the blank sheet of music paper in front of Taylor.
"Hey Zac, have you heard anything about what's going on with Kat?" Taylor asked.
"I heard mom telling dad about the Martin's coming to dinner, but other than that no. Why?" Zac asked.
"Well some things up and no one is talking and Ike was over there last night and I got a feeling he is over there today." Taylor informed Zac. "Wow a real life mystery" Zac said rubbing his hands together.
Chapter 10:
