Chapter 37:
What could be more difficult than knowing you best friend could die?
For Ike knowing that Kat could die was very painful but they still had promotional dates to work on.
“This really sucks dad” Zac looked at his dad as they were packing for another performance.
“Zac this is hard for all of us, but he have obligations that we have to fulfill” Walker said.
“Kat understands that we love her and that we have to do this” Ike said touching his brother shoulder.
“Hey where is Tay” Zac said looking around the room.
“I will go get him” Diana told them.
Taylor had taken the news about Kat very bad. He didn’t want to go away. She needed them.
Walking into the boys room Diana found Taylor sitting on the edge of his bed.
“Taylor, everyone is ready to go. Have you started to pack?”
“Mom why do we have to do this now?” Taylor asked
“Honey, sometimes when the road gets rough you have to keep going” She told her son.
“But Kat needs us” Taylor’s tone was a whisper.
“The Martins and I will be here” Diana hugged her son “You need to get ready” She said as she left the room.
“Mom” Kat yelled from her bed.
“Kat what’s wrong?” Sarah ran into the room
“Nothing I was just wondering if you could fix me something to eat.” She asked her mom.
“You bet, oh Ike called earlier they are getting ready to leave but he wanted to come over before they left. I told him I would check with you” Sarah informed her.
“I will call them and let them know it’s ok” Kat said picking up her phone.
Taylor had finished packing and was headed down to the garage when the phone in the kitchen rang.
“Hello Hanson House” he answered.
“Kat how are you doing today?” he asked.
“You sure, ok well we’ll be over in a few minutes ok. See ya then” he said as he hung up the phone.
Ike and Zac were loading their bags into the van when Taylor emerged with his bag.
“Ike, Kat just called she said we could go over before we head out” Tay told them.
“Great” he said as he headed back into the house.
Jumping from the steps Ike yelled “Let’s go” the three brother’s piled into the family van and head to Kat’s house.
“Ike do you think it’s fair of us to leave Kat when she is sick” Taylor asked
“Kat understands Taylor, she knows we will be back and besides it’s only 2 days” Ike said.
“Well still I feel very guilty leaving her when she’s sick” Tay said.
Kat wanted to see her friends before they left for New York, she was going to miss them.
She could hear the guys walking up the stairs to her room.
“Tay could you walk any slower” Zac said as he pushed Tay up the stairs.
“Zac chill out man” he shot back at Zac.
“Both of you guys stop acting like idiots” Ike pulling rank as the oldest told his brothers before they entered Kat’s room.
“God you guys can you make anymore noise” Kat smiled as they walked into her room.
Zac ran over and gave her a hug. “Hey Kat, guess what?”
“I don’t know Zacy, what?” she replied.
He held up a drumstick “I want you to have this” Zac said handing it to her.
“Oh sure if I knew we were going to hand out presents I would have brought her some thing “ Ike said joking.
“Thank you Zac, it means a lot” Kat said kissing him on the cheek.
“Hey now none of that” Zac said wiping it off.
Taylor stood silent across the room. Kat noticed his behavior and understood what was wrong.
“Well while your in New York buy me a nice gift Ike and all will be forgiven” Kat smiled.
Ike told her it was a deal, and that he was going to miss her but he’ll call her every chance he gets.
They had to get going to catch their plane. Kat asked Taylor if she could talk to him before he left. Ike and Zac took the hint and went downstairs.
“Tay come sit next to me” Kat said as she moved over making room for him.
“Kat I am so sorry we have to leave, I want to stay but” Taylor was interrupted.
“Hush, Taylor I know how important your music is to, it would pain me deeply if I was the reason you missed out on all these wonderful things” Kat said holding Taylor’s hand.
“I want you to go to New York, have some fun and when you get back tell me all about it” Kat said.
“Okay, I’ll try, but you got to promise me you’ll get lots of rest” Taylor said giving her a hug.
“You better get going you don’t want to miss you plane” Kat said letting him go.
Chapter 38:
The two days in New York were full of recording tv appearances and being greeted by screaming young girls. Each day Ike would call home to Tulsa to talk with Kat. The day they were to return Kat was scheduled to have her MRI.
“Ok just lay still” the radiologist instructed Kat.
The test didn’t take long and Kat was glad, she had been feeling real sick the last few days. She missed Ike and hoped he would be home soon.
Dr. Alexander informed the Martin’s of the findings for the MRI “Most of the mass we were able to remove through surgery, there is a small amount that we could not access we are hoping the radiation will shrink the remaining tumor”
“Kat we have scheduled you for your treatments to begin on Monday” the doctor told her.
“How long are the treatments?” Kat asked. “They do not last long at all, 10-15 mins at the most” she told her.
The doctor answered all the questions Kat and her parent’s had for they day.
Kat was tired and they decided to go home so that she could rest.
“Feels good to be home” Tay announced when he walked into his room.
“Well I am going over to Kat’s for a while” Ike told him as he set his bags down.
As Ike headed downstairs he heard the phone ring.
“I’ll get it” he heard Zac yell from the kitchen.
“Hello Hanson house” Ike could hear Zac as he walked into the kitchen.
“Who’s that?” Ike questioned him.
“Can you hang on a sec please” he told the person on the phone.
“Well if you must know it’s Trent” Zac said.
“Who in the heck is Trent?” Ike asked
“Well I think he is the guy who calls every house in Tulsa asking if they want to switch phone companies.” Zac said going back to his important phone call.
“Yes, I believe T&T is a great phone company I would be happy to, ok now let me ask you a few questions, Trent is it?” Ike began laughing at Zac’s weird sense of humor.
Ike had remembered to bring his gift that he bought Kat in New York. “I hope she’ll like it” he thought to himself.
