Chapter 3:
The drive back home was a blur for Ike. Memories of Kat and Ike’s childhood in Tulsa played in his mind. What would he do without his best friend? This thought was too painful to think about.
Pulling into the drive, he noticed his parents' light on the their bedroom. Not wanting to deal with worried parents, Ike hoped they fell asleep with the light on.
Walker was sitting at the table drinking a cup of coffee. Ike walked in the back door, and Walker caught a glimpse his son’s sadden face.
Ike sat down on the floor and tears began to fall once again.
“Dad, she could die!” Ike cried. Walker sat down next to his son and just held him, not saying anything. Walker knew what Kat meant to Ike.
Just then, Diana walked in. Walker motioned for her to let him handle this one.
Ike lay in his bed with his heading pounding from crying and worrying about Kat. Ike explained to his dad everything that he knew about what was wrong with Kat. Still not knowing everything himself. But one thing he knew was he did not want her to go through this alone. Minutes later, Ike fell into a deep sleep.
Waking up the next day, Kat felt like she had been hit by a Mac truck. Her body hurt from her crying fit the night before.
“Oh Ike,” Kat sighed softly. Knowing he must be tore up over this she felt even worse.
“Kat, honey you up yet?” Sarah poked her head in her daughter’s room, “Diana called me this morning, and wanted you to know that they are praying for you.” Kat’s mom said, giving her a loving motherly look.
“Thanks mom,” Kat said.
Kat entered the bathroom, catching her reflection the mirror. “Not a pretty sight” Kat thought to herself.
Jumping in the shower, Kat began wondering herself about things she had wanted to do.
Letting the water hit his face, Ike hurt all over. But the pain in his heart seemed to be the pain that hurt the most. Ike made a list of things that he had to do this morning; hoping he could get them all done before Kat had to go to the doctors.
Ike jumped out of the shower, hurrying to get dressed and get his day under way.
With his hair still wet, Ike ran past Zac who seemed to playing some kind of hand held game.
“Watch it wet boy!” Zac yelled “You got me all wet with all that hair flying around.” Zac said jokingly.
“Sorry, Zac I am kinda in a major hurry,” Ike said passing by him. “Not a prob bro,” Zac replied as he made his way to the bathroom.
