Chapter 29:
“Alright Kat, if you have any questions about the procedure now’s the time to ask” Dr. Alexander informed her.
“No I’m ok” Kat said not sure that she convinced anyone.
“Ok than let’s get started, we are hoping to get as much of the tumor out as we can” Dr. Alexander said touching Kat’s hand.
“Honey we will be in the waiting room, along with Diana and Walker. We love you” Sarah said as Kat was wheeled out of the room towards the operating room.
“I love you too” Kat said with a nervous smile.
The room was so bright it hurt Kat’s eyes, she was so scared but tried to hide her fear.
Soon she was drifting off into a deep sleep.
“Come on, you throw like a girl”
“I am a girl you fool”
“Throw the ball Kat”
“If you guys aren’t going to play nice I am going home”
“Tay stop teasing her”
“I’m going back you Hanson boys are mean”
A few hours later in the recovery room Dr. Alexander was standing over Kat’s hospital bed trying to get her to wake up “Kat come on now time to wake up”.
Kat felt so thirsty and the pain was starting to hit her now. She wished she could go back to playing ball with the guys.
“When does the plane leave?” Taylor asked Chris.
“We should be in the air in less than 20 minutes Taylor” Chris answered.
“Where is Ike?” Zac asked looking around the room.
“I think he is on the phone” Jason answered him.
Tay and Zac looked at each other and began searching for their brother.
“Um ok Dad, tell her we will be home soon” Ike hung up the cell phone and turned to his brothers who had been standing there listening.
Pleading for some info Zac yelled “Welllllll”
“All they know is that the surgery went fine and she is out of the recovery room” Ike told them.
“What about the tumor?” Taylor questioned.
“Tay, I don’t know.” Ike answered.
Jason informed the guys it was time to board the plane.
Tay, Ike and even Zac were silent the trip home.
When the plane landed they ran up to their dad and began questioning him about Kat and when could he take them to see her.
“Well the doctors want her to get some rest tonight, we can go over there in the morning guys”. Walker told them.
The sun shone through the window and Kat just sat there looked at the blue sky.
“They say if you do that too much you’ll go blind” Ike sad laughing.
“Huh?” Kat said turning to see Ike and Tay standing in the doorway. She tried to cover her hair, they had to shave it for surgery.
“God Ike you are a sick man” Tay hit his brother in the arm.
Kissing Kat on the forehead Tay sat down at the end of the hospital bed as Ike put the flowers they brought in some water. They didn’t seem to mind how she looked.
“Thanks guys, where’s Zac?” Kat asked.
“Oh he’ll be in a second” Ike said grining.
Just then the room filled with balloons and you could hear Zac’s voice.
“Hey someone wanna help a fellow out over here.”
“You guys shouldn’t of really.” Kat said smiling.
The four friends sat there joking and talking for a few hours until the nurse came in and told them Kat needed her rest.
“Ok Kat we’ll be over in the morning after school” Tay said giving her a hug.
“Thanks guys, for everything” she told them as they were leaving her room.
