Chapter 15:

Diana and Sarah cleared the dinner table as everyone finished with their meal.

"Why don't we all go into the family room?" Walker suggested.

Kat stood up, her knees were shaking and her stomach felt like it was going to get rid of her dinner.

"Kat, why don't you sit down for a second." Sarah said noticing her daughter's pale complexion.

Diana excused herself, and left Sarah and Kat in the dining area.

"Kat, honey, you don't have to do this tonight you know. Your dad and I have already talked to Walker and Diana, they understand." Sarah spoke softly to Kat.

"Mom, I have to do this tonight." Kat stated to her mom.

"Why...why tonight?" Sarah asked.

"I might not have the strength to do it later." Kat said.

"Ok, do you need another drink of water before you go in there?" Sarah asked.

"No, I'm fine." Kat replied.

Everyone had been making small talk waiting for Kat and Sarah to join them in the Hanson family room.

When Kat walked in, "I saved you a seat." Ike said pointing to the couch cushion next to him.

"Thanks, Ike." Kat said.

"Here goes nothing," Kat mumbled under her breath.

"Everyone in this room and in the house means more to me than you'll ever know." Kat started off.

"As some of you know, I have had a cold for the last couple weeks. Well, at least we all thought it was a cold. Upon going to the doctors, I found out it is much worse than just a cold." Kat was physically shaking now as she tried to speak.

Taylor looked around the room and began to feel his stomach ache.

"I guess what I am trying to say is, the doctors found something, and they seem to think it's a tumor at the base of my brain." Kat's eyes began to fill with tears as did almost everyone else's in the room.

"We really won't know more until a few days. I had some test today that the doctor hope will explain more." Kat sobbed openly.

Chapter 16:

Zac and Taylor looked at each other then at Ike.

They all sat there for what seemed like hours, just sitting in silence.

Taylor was trembling from the news.

Zac got up from his seat and sat next to Kat.

"Kat, I am so sorry. I love you!" Zac said and he put his head against her leg.

"Zaccy, I love you to!" Kat replied as a tear rolled down her cheek.

Taylor was stuck in his seat. He couldn't say anything. He didn't want to move. All he wanted to do was make Kat better again.

Walker spoke up, "If there is anything we can do just ask."

Diana chimed in, "Kat, you're like one of our own. We will pray for you. Sarah and Jack, if you need anything, please just call us we are here to help."

Ike put his arm around Kat and gave her shoulder a small squeeze.

Kat knew exactly what Ike was feeling.

It was getting late now, and Kat was getting very sleepy, so they decided to go home for the night.

"Thanks Diana, for the wonderful dinner, and your family's much needed support." Sarah said.

Diana kissed the top of Kat's head, "Sweetie, just remember we all love you." Diana said as the Martin's got in their car.

Lying in bed, Taylor felt a lump in his throat start to develop.

"Ike," Taylor said fighting back tears.

"Yeah Tay," Ike answered him.

"What happens now?" Tay questioned his brother.

"I don't know Tay. I just don't know." Ike answered.

Taylor rolled over so his brothers wouldn't see the tears rolling down his cheeks.

Zac knew how Tay felt because he too thought about what life would be like if something were to happen to Kat.

She has just always been there, Zac thought.

Ike must be all tore up! Zac remembered when Ike lost his pet turtle, he was upset for weeks and that was just a turtle.

This is not a good thing! he thought as he drifted off to sleep.

Not surprisingly, Ike could not to fall asleep. He sat up writing.
