Chapter 47:
"Hello" Jack answered as he picked up the phone.
"Oh hello Ike, yes she's here hang on I'll put her on" Jack handed the phone to Diana.
"Hi sweetheart, did you find everything ok?" Diana asked.
"No, we haven't heard yet whether or not they will release her" Diana explained.
"You boys make sure you have enough wood for the fireplace for the night" Diana instructed.
"Ok honey, I love you to. I'll tell her. Ok goodbye." She hung up the phone.
Ike returned to the family room where Taylor and Zac were working on starting a fire.
"Hey what did they say?" Taylor asked.
"No news yet on if they'll let her come up." Ike informed them.
The sparks of a fire began to take shape. "There we go" Zac said as he put his hands up to get warm.
"What are we going to do for food?" Taylor looked at his brothers.
"Looks like a trip to the store is in order." Ike replied.
"I sure hope that one chick isn't working" Zac made a face like he swallowed something bitter.
"Oh come on Zac it's been a long time since we've been up here. I doubt she even lives here anymore." Tay reassured him.
"Anyways was it that bad?" Ike questioned
"Being kissed by some strange girl is very traumatic Isaac" Zac said as he got up.
Tay and Ike stood by the door teasing Zac. "oh, Zacy you're the best, here let me kiss you." Tay joked as he blew kisses to his brother.
"My what big muscle you have Zac, your so dreamy." Ike grabbed Zac's arm.
Knock it off you two." Zac pouted.
"Can't you take a joke Zachary" Tay said as they got in the 4x4 Blazer.
"Sure I can. Just don't go embarrassing me in front of anyone ok." Zac asked.
"Who us?" Ike giggled.
Chapter 48:
Kat's condition had not improved since being admitted to the hospital. The Martin's and the Hanson family were awaiting news from the doctor.
Kat was awake when Diana entered her room. "Diana she's been asking for you." Jack told her.
"What is it honey?" Diana asked leaning closer to Kat to hear what she was trying to say.
Struggling for words Kat was able to say "Ike."
"Honey Ike is up at the cabin right now, were trying to get you up there for Christmas." Diana told her.
Kat gave her a smile and mouthed the words "Thank You."
Diana felt tears filling up in her eyes. "Oh sweetheart you're very welcome." She bent down and kissed her on the cheek.
Dr. Alexander entered the room. Everyone was stood silent. "We had a meeting this morning on Kat's condition" she began.
Sitting down the doctor explained the concerns the physicians had. "Dr. Kirchen and Dr. Rao and I have made the decision to release Kat, we would like to set up a at home nurse."
"We'll do whatever it takes" Sarah told her.
"Give us a few days to work out the details" Dr. Alexander explained.
Walker was silent up to this point, "We'll be more than happy to find someone to transport Kat to the cabin" he offered.
"That would be great, thank you Walker." Jack
"I will call the boys and let them know." Diana said.
Sarah touched Kat's face "Kat, were having a white Christmas this year." Sarah smiled at her daughter.
The only word Sarah could make out was "snow" from Kat's response. "Yes baby, snow."
Driving through town the Hanson brothers noticed that not much has changed in the tiny little community.
"See. Nothing has changed. I bet that girl is still there." Zac held tight onto Tay's coat.
"Oh Zac clam down." Sighed Taylor.
The three exited the vehicle and headed for the local general store. Zac looked all around the front register hoping to spot the clerk.
"Hi can I help you find something?" asked the tall thin teenager.
"No thank you were just looking." Ike replied.
"See Zac that guy works here not your kissy face girl friend." Tay smirked.
Ike headed to the beverage isle. "Hey Ike get some Dr. Pepper" Shouted Tay.
Zac turned around to shout his request, but stopped and stood speechless.
"Tay look at her." Zac said pointing to the girl stocking the shelves.
Taylor turned around to see Zac standing with his mouth wide opening staring at a young girl.
The girl looked up from the pile of cans she had been working on, "Didn't mom ever tell you it's not polite to stare?" she said.
"Um, I'm sorry. It's just that you look really familiar." Zac said.
Standing next to his brother Taylor noticed that this girl was "the girl."
"Hey Zac, I don't want you to freak out or anything, but I think that's the girl from before."
Zac took a step back and shook his head. "No, I don't think so. This girl looks different."
Just than the girl stood up and walked toward Zac and Tay. "Do I know you or something?" she questioned.
"I don't think so, were not from around here." Zac said shyly.
Taking a closer look at the two standing before her a puzzled look came over her face.
"You do look like someone I know" she said.
Tay couldn't help but let her in on his thoughts. "Were staying at our grandparents cabin, we haven't been up here in 3 years." Taylor said with a smile.
The bright red color of the girl's face led Taylor to believe she remembered who they were.
"So do you have a name" Zac asked not knowing that she in fact was "the girl."
"Sorry" she said as she wiped off her hand. Holding her hand out she replied. "My name is Haley."
Shaking her hand Zac introduced him. "Hi Haley, I'm Zac and this is my brother Taylor." Zac said clueless.
Ike had been picking out some food for their stay, when he stumbled upon the three standing in one of the isle. "Well, well what do we have here." He said as he looked at Zac shaking this girl's hand.
"Hey Ike, this is Haley." Zac introduce her to Ike.
"Nice to meet you" he said shaking her hand. "Guys we have to go." Ike mentioned to Tay and Zac.
Tay turned to the red face girl, "I'm sorry for embarrassing you."
"Thank you for not making a big deal out of it today. Ya know it was 3 years ago and I'm not like that anymore." She smiled.
"I have to go, have a nice evening Haley." Tay replied as he left the store.
