Chapter 43:
Dr. Kirchen had given the Martin's some unbearable news. "We thought they had removed all the cancer?" Jack sobbed.
"After looking at the scans, it seems that they removed what they could. The areas were much more wide spread." Dr. Kirchen explained.
"What does this all mean? Is she dying?" Sarah cried. "Are you telling me my baby is dying." Sarah openly cried into her hands.
"I am afraid that the treatments and the surgery are not doing her any good" Dr. Kirchen placed his hand on Sarah's shoulder. "We can call in Dr. Alexander to review our findings if you would like us to" he asked.
"I need to know how you would like us to proceed with treatments" Dr. Kirchen explained.
"You do not have to answer me now, we can wait until Dr. Alexander has spoken with you" the doctor informed the Martin's.
"Yes, please do that." Jack replied.
Jack and Sarah sat in the tiny room crying and holding one another after the doctor left.
"Dr. Alexander please" Dr. Kirchen had decided to make this important call right away.
"Hello Dr. Alexander, this is Dr. Kirchen." He explained what the scans and the test revealed.
Dr. Alexander decided to go to the hospital and check in on the Martin's.
The Hanson's decided to wait at home for news on Kat's condition.
Ike sat looking out the window, his heart sank each time he pictured Kat's face.
"Hey there" Zac said softly as he sat down next to Ike. "Ike remember when Grandma passed away?"
"What's about it Zac?" Ike didn't feel like talking about people dying. "Well mom said God takes those who are precious he wants them to be close to him." "I think Kat will feel better next to God than she would in so much pain with us on earth."
"I know Zac, I know she is in so much pain. I just am not ready to give her up yet." Ike looked at Zac with tear filled eyes.
"Ike, none of us what Kat to go, we all love her. Did you know Taylor hasn't eaten in 3 days, Mom and Dad walk around the house in pain because she is like one of their children and what about me, I love Kat too. I hurt my heart is full of pain." Zac sobbed as Ike hugged his younger brother.
Chapter 44:
Ike had gone back to the hospital to sit with Kat. "Kat your so strong, I am so proud to have you as my friend", Ike said as he looked at Kat.
Kat looked up at Ike from her hospital bed with tears streaming down her cheeks. "Ike" she mumbled.
Ike bent closer to hear her, "What is it?" he replied.
"Ike, I'm dying." She told him.
"Kat. Please don't talk like that" he felt a lump form in his throat. He knew that she was right but couldn't bare the thought of life without her.
Kat spoke once again, "Christmas…cabin" were the only two words Ike could make sense of what she had said.
"Mom is at home working on getting you up to the cabin, we will have Christmas with all that snow you like so much" Ike kissed her hand as she drifted off to sleep.
Sarah had confided in Diana about what the doctor had told her. "Oh my god Sarah, what are we going to do?" Diana asked.
"I don't know Diana, my baby is slowly dying and there isn't anything I can do about it" she said as she collapsed unto the floor as she cried.
"More than anything Kat made me promise that we would spend Christmas at the cabin this year, I am going to keep that promise to her" Diana explained.
Through the tears Sarah agreed that keeping this promise would mean the world to Kat.
"I will speak to the doctors, I know we only have a week before Christmas." Sarah said.
"I'll have Walker talk to the boys and get them prepared for this trip and what we might be up against" Diana stated.
Diana hugged Sarah "You know something Diana, I am angry. I am angry with God for doing this to her" she said.
"God loves Kat as well as you, he doesn't want to cause you pain. Sarah God doesn't do this to anyone on purpose. He is calling her home because he loves her" Diana explained.
"But I love her too" Sarah cried.
"We all love her very much, but she is one of God's children and has chosen her to sit next to him in heaven" Diana held her friend's hand.
