Chapter 41:

The doors to the emergency room flew open as the doctors at St. Johns Medical Center took over.

Jack held Sarah, "Everything will be just fine" he spoke softly trying to reassure himself as well.

Kat felt all alone even though the room was full of doctors and nurses. "Can my mom come in?" she asked the nurse.

"I'll go out and get here" the nurse said she left the room.

"Mrs. Martin" the nurse stood in the hallway looking for Sarah.

"Yes" Sarah spoke up as she moved toward the nurse.

"She is asking for you, I'm sorry but we can only have one person in at a time" the nurse said as she looked at Mr. Martin.

Sarah was not prepared to she Kat the way she was. There were tubes and wires hanging all around.

"Kat, sweetie, its mom." Sarah spoke to her as she touched her cheek. Kat's breathing was very shallow.

"Mrs. Martin, I'm Dr. Kirchen, Kat's fever is extremely high right now. We are working on reducing the fever but it may be caused by an infection in the brain" he explained.

Walker and Ike had just gotten back from the dentist when Jack called for Diana.

"No, oh no Jack" Diana covered her mouth.

"What's going on?" Ike questioned his mom's expression.

"They are rushing Kat to the emergency room, she is running a very high fever" she told him.

Grabbing the car keys Diana and Ike rushed to the hospital.

Momments later Ike ran into the waiting room to see Jack sitting by himself in the corner.

"Where is she?" Ike cried.

"Ike she is in the emergency room, Sarah is in there with her. They think she may have an infection in her brain" he told them.

Diana hugged Jack, "Dear God, please give us the strength" she reached for Isaac.

"She's a fighter, she'll be ok." He said as he wiped a tear away.

Sarah had come out into the waiting room to talk to Jack.

Chapter 42:

Kat's high fever had broke after a day in the hospital. Kat's still was not out of the woods though.

"There many have been some brain damaged caused by the high fever" Dr. Kirchen explained to the Martins.

"Will we know how serve?" Jack asked.

"We won't know right away, it may just be her speech or it could be other areas. We just won't know" Dr. Kirchen excused himself and left the room.

Ike had been at the hospital all night with the Martin's. He had been to the chapel many times to say a prayer for his best friend who he loves dearly.

Kat's eyes were open but she was not speaking yet.

"Come on Kat, talk to me" Ike begged her.

Sarah and Jack hated to see their beautiful daughter in so much pain.

Diana did not stay at the hospital with the Martin's, she had 6 children at home that she needed to tend to. Not only that she had made a promise to Kat and she had to get everything ready.

Dr. Kirchen came into Kat's room with some news for Jack and Sarah.

"Isaac will you excuse us" Jack said as they left the room to speak with the doctor.

"Sure" Ike said.

"Kat, please try to talk to me" he said as he held her hand.

Kat tried to mouth a few words to him. "Sorry" was the only word Ike could make out.

Puzzled Ike asked her "Sorry? What do you have to be sorry about?"

Kat could only whisper a few words and the words she spoke were not making sense.

Isaac kissed her on the cheek, "Kat you are so brave and so strong."

Taylor, Zac and Walker were standing outside Kat's door waiting for the right moment to enter.

Zac walked in once he regained his composer. In a small voice Zac spoke to Kat. "Hey there Kat, are they treating you good in this 5 star hotel or what?"

Taylor touched Kat's hand and smiled. Smiling back Kat tried to speak. "Tay" Taylor leaned over to hear what she was trying to say.

"Tay, love Kat always?" she whispered. Taylor felt a tremendous pain raising in his throat. Holding back the tears he kissed her forehead. "Yes, I will always love you."

"Hey why don't we let Kat get some rest" Walker spoke up. Ike, Tay and Zac looked like that had been kicked in the stomach as they left the hospital room.
