LOOK AT YOU

Written by: Christina

Taking a deep breath, Taylor stepped through the doors into the gym. It was his first ever time going to school, so this was obviously his first ever dance.

“Come on Tay, it isn’t that bad,” Ashley yelled over the music.

“That’s what you say! Ash, the only difference between us is that you’ve been going to school for so long, and I’ve only played in one!”

“Yeah well, what can I say? Just, socialize, you’re supposed to be having fun!” Giving him a pathetic look, Taylor just sat down on the bleachers. He knew he should have stayed home.

“No! uh uh, you are not doing this to me!” Ashley said in obvious distaste at how easily his friend was giving up, “You came, you paid, you are gonna have fun darnit! Now get up and dance with me.”

“With you? Won’t that look just a bit too weird?”

“There’s that word again. Look, you be a wall flower for now, I have something to tend to real quick.”

Walking away, Ashley called out “You should have asked Christina, is what you should have done!”

“Yeah right,” Tay mumbled under his breath. It had been about two months since he and his brothers had stopped touring. Wanting to do something unusual, Tay and Zac surprised their parents by saying they wanted to attend public school.

A week later, Zac was in the middle school being a normal 8th grader, while Taylor had retreated to being a quiet 10th grader. Sure, around his friends, he would cut loose, but it had seemed like everyone else looked at him as some teenybopper.

Either way, he was happy, and thinking about Christina only made him happier. They had been friends since forever, and both of their fathers had worked for the same oil company, allowing them to also travel overseas together. When Hanson went on tour, Christina was one of the few friends Tay kept up with. They also were able to talk more frequently thanks to the internet. It was funny how they could both be in a Hanson chat room, and on one would even know that he was there!

Though Christina and Taylor were really close, he didn’t know how she felt about him. He so desperately wanted to ask her out, and almost did. Rarely eating school lunches (think about it, it's school food!), Christina and Taylor had sat down before the rest of their friends. Just as he was about to ask her, good ol’ Ashley had decided to join them. Needless to say, he didn’t ask her.

Now sitting alone on the bleachers, the DJ’s voice boomed over the loud systems.

“Is everyone out there having fun?” Everyone cheers. Tay waves his hand in the air showing his lack of enthusiasm.

“OK, well this next song is requested by Ashley Greyson, Ashley, here you go!”

Just then, Ashley appeared in front of Tay.

“Ash, what did you do?” Just then, there was a familiar beat floating through the air, “Oh god no” Tay whispered.

“Oh yes! Now that everyone knows your heer, get out there and DANCE!”

Feeling his face turn red, he turned away,

“You know I suck at dancing! I refuse to.”

“Oh come on now, Tay, you’re a wonderful dancer! I’ve seen you dance a million times! We danced last weekend when you spent the night at my house!”

“But that was different!” Tay whined, “We were in our boxers, wearing cheap sunglasses, and signing along to 'Devil in a Blue Dress'! Not to mention Christina wasn’t even in the same facinity!”

“True, we both know what happens when you stir Pixie Stix into Pepsi, all the while eating a 16 inch Pine Apple pizza. When it comes to you Tay, that equals wild, and wild on you equals spaz! And uh, speaking of Christina, turn around.”

Doing as Ashley said, Taylor noticed the dance floor had cleared. In the middle, was Christina, dancing her heart away “Geez, look at her go!” Ash cheered.

Taylor added, “I guess all those dance lessons paid off!”

When MMMBOP ended, she walked over to them, looking exhausted, “Hey! How come you're not out there?” Christina asked, looking directly at Taylor.

“Yeah right!” Tay stated, “Half the people at this school already think I’m weird, let’s just leave it at that.”

Looking at Ashley for help, she could see it was impossible.

“Look Taylor Hanson, I’ve been watching you all night! You’ve been just been standing in the shadows, not doing anything. Just think of it as a concert. You were great at the Pittsburgh show! I was there, remember? Just go into one of your silly modes!”

“I wish I could just disappear!”

“Whatever. Come on.”

As Taylor looked into her eyes, he noticed that glint. Yup, it was official. Christina was gonna pull something off. Grabbing his hand, she dragged him out onto the floor. Seeing the lights on his face, Christina saw for the millionth time why she loved him. Those blue eyes were amazing! It was so intriguing how his moods could change so easily! She just loved him! Smiling, she saw how quickly his body had froze.

“Do something!” she urged. Finally, after just standing there, Taylor kissed her! “WOW! I was hinting at doing something that involved dancing, but that works too.”

He laughed. Finally, Tay was starting to lighten up. Christina had already begun dancing, and before he realized it, he was too. But only for about 30 seconds. They had been standing there almost all the way through the song “Come With Me”, everyone else had resumed to the dance floor also.

As, “My Heart Will Go On” began, Taylor put his arms around Christina’s waist. Putting her head on his shoulder, she smiled.

"Well, my jobs done here!” Ashley decided, “I didn’t get him out there, but Christina sure did!” Needless to say, and to make a really long story somewhat shorter, Taylor and Christina got together, somewhere after high school for Christina since Tay went back to home schooling, they got married, Hanson is still kicking, and there are also a few more munchkins to add to the Hanson kiddy roster.

THE END.
